We wrote an assignment about Theodor Herzl. In the assignment, we chose 3 problems that Herzl had to overcome to get Jews their own land and solve antisemitism. After we picked, we were asked what he did to overcome this problem and how it impacted him personally. Then we wrote 3 journal entries from Herzl’s perspective.
Reflection:
| I learned that Herzl worked really hard to the point of neglecting his family. No matter how many people were against him, he still believed in his dream and believed he could do it. Herzl still lives in Israel today as the father of modern zionism. Israel wouldn’t exist without Herzl and the work he put in. I agree with Herzl’s determination because the Jews really needed their own land; however, I do not agree with his neglect of his family. He died and left his family with no money. His daughter Puallina suffered from mental illness and drug addiction and died in 1930. His son is called Hans; he committed suicide after Puallina died. His youngest daughter, Margareth, was burned alive in a concentration camp by the Nazis. |
